LITTLE LEAGUE® TO ADOPT NEW USA BASEBALL BAT STANDARD STARTING WITH 2018 SEASON

We want to make everyone aware that effective January 1, 2018, per new Little League rules, there are new baseball bat standards for Little League baseball. All SAYB players ages 12 and under will be required to follow these new bat standards.

Beginning with the 2018 season, non-wood and laminated bats used in Little League and below must bear the USA Baseball logo signifying that the bat meets the USABat - USA Baseball’s Youth Bat Performance Standard. All BPF - 1.15 bats will be prohibited beginning with the 2018 season. A list of all bats that are approved for play can be found at USA bat.

What does this mean for you? Last year’s model bats will not be allowed in 2018. Before purchasing a new bat, be sure to understand the bat rules. The USA Baseball logo must appear on the bat in 2018. These bats became available for sale on September 1, 2017. Also note that the bat diameter may be up to 2⅝ inches for age 12 and under play in 2018. This is a change from last year when 2 ¼ inches was the largest bat size.

Note: Solid one-piece wood barrel bats are legal and do not require a USA Baseball logo.

Additional information is available at the Little League website.
