Storm top Grasshoppers in NL Championship

Given challenges with weather it may seem like summer is just beginning, but the regular season for 11-12 yr old baseball has come to a conclusion.

With an estimated 400+ observers in attendance, on 6/29 Shoreview Area Youth Baseball held its season ending tournament championship with an event that was an outstanding demonstration of youth baseball.

The National League Championship matched the League Leading Grasshoppers (23-2 entering the game) vs. the Storm.  It started as a pitcher dual between Scott Jiskra (Grasshoppers) and Nate Foley (Storm) until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Grasshoppers jumped out to a 5-0 lead. highlighted by a 2 run homer from Ian Bahn. The Storm would not be outdone with the entire team coming together to score 6 runs in the top of the 4th inning, highlighted by an Ike Mezzenga 2 run homer.

The remainder of the game highlighted timely hitting, putting runners in scoring position immediately followed by outstanding defensive plays. As the Grasshoppers approached the final inning they refused to give up and had runners on 1st and 2nd base when Jacob Moe and TJ Sparrow of the Storm combined to make an incredible defensive play to close out the game with the Storm winning  8-5.

Congratulations to the Storm, Grasshoppers and all Shoreview Baseball players and volunteers for an outstanding season.
