Frequently Asked Questions

  • Birthday cutoffs
    • Instructional League (Ages 6-8): ​Players born 9/1/2008 – 8/31/2011.
    • Junior Minor League (Ages 9-10): Players born 5/1/2006 – 8/31/2009 (includes "play-up" dates).
    • Amer. & Nat. League (Ages 11-12): Players born 5/1/2004 – 8/31/2007 (includes "play-up" dates).
    • Big League (ages 13-15) Player's birth date must be between May 1, 2001 and April 30, 2005
    • Sr. Big League (Ages 16-19): Not affected by the above (Little League only).
  • Can I volunteer to coach?
  • How much does it cost to register?
  • Can a coach be requested?
    • A player may indicate that they prefer to play for a different coach than the prior year coach.
  • When is the SAYB Twins game?
    • Twins game info will be posted here on the website when available. You can order tickets online, here on sayb.org.
  • What is included with my registration fee?
    • uniform (hat, shirt, pants, socks), baseballs, catchers equipment, fields, baseball training, umpires (except IL)

  • Are there any additional items we need to have for the season? 
    • helmet, bat, glove, protective cup, sunglasses, transportation to practices/games
  • Where do I find the residency requirements and map of SAYB's boundaries? 
    • The residency requirements and map are available on the Residency Page.

  • When does the season start & end?
    • All of the Little Leagues typically start mid April. JM and AL/NL seasons are typically completed by the end of June,  IL finishes up the first weekend after the 4th of July. 

  • What nights do the teams typically play on?
    •  IL - Mon and Wed nights
    • JM - Sun, Tues, Thurs nights
    • AL - Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun nights
    • NL - Sun, Tues, Thurs, Fri nights
    • ... but AL/NL games can be all over the place
  • How long do practices/games typically last?
    • Practice 1 ½ hours. Games 2 hours

  • How many practices can we expect each week? 
    • Up to coaches, but typically before games start 2-3 times per week. Once games start, 1 per week.
  • What fields do the teams typically play on? 
    • IL/JM - South point, Kohler, Westfield, Berwood, Lily Pond, Floral, Perry

    • AL/NL - South Point, Sitzer, Wilson, Centennial

  • When are the playoffs for each league? 
    • End of June
  • How does the Buddy Request work? 
    • For IL and JM only. Kid A requests Kid B and Kid B requests Kid A. They both need to request each other, or the request will not be granted
  • How are teams formed? 
    • IL/JM-by location, schools and age, to get as even as we can with each amount of age on each team. AL-try out scores for those that went to tryouts, schools. NL-draft
  • Where do I find information about tryouts?
    •  Tryout information will be posted on the website.
  • How fast are the pitching machines for tryouts?
    • Little League tryout speeds are typically around 46.  For Big League it's between 50-55 mph. Keep in mind that the coaches are looking at form, and not necessarily if the player hits the ball.  

  • When will I find out which team my child is on?
    • Coaches are notified at the coaches meeting early April, and coaches will contact families shortly after that.
